playstation 5

The year before was an important one for console gamers. Both Sony and Microsoft released their next-generation consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X respectively. Although the PS5 was launched globally in November 2020, it did not arrive in India at the same time due to trademark nonsense. Well, with the start of the New Year, Sony seems to have solved the problem and confirmed the PS5 India release date today.

PlayStation 5 (PS5) Launch Date in India

In an official tweet from this PlayStation India account, Sony verified that the PS5 will finally go on sale in India starting February 2, 2021. Eager buyers will be able to pre-order the PS5 starting January 12 at 12 p.m. and offline retailers.

As you can notice from this tweet, you’ll be able to pre-order a PS5 from Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital, Game The Shop, Shop at Sony Center, Vijay Sales, also other retailers.

If you don’t already know, the launch of PlayStation India was delayed because the company did not have the PS5 trademark in the country. A Delhi resident named Hitesh Aswani reportedly applied for the PS5 nickname trademark on October 29, 2019, about three months before Sony’s application. The company seems to have finally solved this problem. It is now preparing to launch its next-generation console in India about three months after its global launch.

Price of PlayStation 5 and accessories in India

Although Sony had no trademark or release date in sight, it still confirmed pricing for the PlayStation 5 in India.

The PlayStation 5 is priced at Rs. 49,990 in India. But if you don’t plan on buying game discs and trading them with friends, go for the more affordable digital edition of the PS5. It will retail for Rs. 39,990 in India.

As for the new DualSense controller, it is priced at Rs. 5,990 in India. It presently features a clean white aesthetic, a new adaptive L2 also R2 firing system, a built-in microphone, and a USB Type-C port for charging. You can check the price list of the console and the attached accessories here:

Sony’s next-generation console, the PlayStation 5, went on sale worldwide on November 12, and the console is experiencing high demand. While we expected that PlayStation 5 to be very scarcely available through these first few months, it turns out that the demand is very higher than Sony expected.

In an interview with Russian media outlet TASS, Sony CEO Jim Ryan told that PlayStation 5 is selling exceptionally well, so much so that Sony is focusing more on improving supply due to the large demand for the console.

“Everything is sold. Absolutely everything is sold, ”Ryan said. “Also everything will be traded in Russia, of that there is no doubt. I’ve spent much of this last year working to make sure we can create enough demand for this product. And now, in terms of my executive bandwidth, I spend a lot more time trying to increase supply to meet that demand, ”he is quoted as saying.

He also noted that the majority (nearly two-thirds) of early PlayStation 5 customers are expected to be PlayStation 4 owners, while the rest may come from another console or more from outside the console ecosystem. “Complete activities verify that the opening organization, about these launches through Christmas, nearly three-quarters, method be PS4 updates,” he replied. “And this remaining 25% will get from other consoles or it will become from outside this console ecosystem. So the vast majority of those who buy a PS5 will have a PS4 … There are about 114 million PS4s in the world, the number of those that are transferred, if you take that into account, is small.

In the meantime, we still have no information on the availability of PlayStation 5 in India. I am looking forward to the console coming to the country, although it will most likely be very difficult to get one any time soon, even after it goes on sale here.

Last week we got a lot of information about the Xbox Series X | S, including the official price and release date (including the Indian price for consoles) and a leaked commercial showing some key features of the Xbox Series S. Surprisingly, Sony did not give any information last week about their consoles. Still, if you’re hoping to get some information on the Playstation 5, the Japanese giant has announced a showcase event on September 16.

According to Sony, it will share information on titles from Sony’s global studios and partner developers. “Our next digital showcase will last about 40 minutes and will feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners,” Sony said in its blog post announcing the event.

However, it won’t be a surprise if the company also reveals key information about the PlayStation 5. That hopefully includes the price and release date of the consoles, plus perhaps a proper timeline for pre-order.

Of course, that is an illusion at the moment. However, we have seen Sony’s past event when they showed PS5 games. That was followed by a PS 5 design reveal as well. Plus, 40 minutes seems like too long to just give updates on upcoming PS 5 titles. Hopefully, Sony will add a surprise price announcement at the end of the stream.

The event is scheduled for September 16 at 1 pm PDT. For those of us in India, that’s 1:30 am IST on September 17th. You can watch the broadcast on Twitch or YouTube if you are interested.
