Pixel 5 may be suffering from a number of weird bugs, but apparently, it also comes with some cool features that are only now being discovered. According to the official Google support pages for the smartphone, Pixel 5 can automatically turn into a Qi wireless charging pad when connected to a power source.
It is believed that it was first detected by 9to5Google, the “Battery sharing” function will automatically activate for 30 seconds each time the device is connected to a power outlet. If the phone detects another Qi-compatible device placed on its back, it will start charging as expected, but will automatically turn off after 30 seconds if no other device is detected.
According to Google, “When your Pixel phone is plugged in and charging, Battery Share turns on automatically for a short period. If your phone does not detect that another device is using its power during that time, Battery Share turns off. When your phone is not plugged in, you can activate Battery Share manually. “
Of course, as Google mentioned in their post, Battery Share can also be activated manually. To do so, you can go to the Settings menu on your Pixel 5, tap on the “Battery” option, and choose Battery Share. The feature can also be added to Quick Settings.
While Google has widely touted the Pixel 5’s reverse wireless charging feature, the latest discovery is new. While it’s not a critical feature, it’s a cool feature, so kudos to the engineers who thought of it in the first place. So are you using the reverse wireless charging feature of the Pixel 5? Let us know in the comments below.

In August, Gboard was seen testing hands-free voice typing on Pixel phones. According to a new report from 9to5Google, the software giant appears to be rolling out the feature now.
The new “enhanced voice typing” harnesses the power of the next generation Google Assistant. In case you’re out of the loop, the Next Gen Assistant is still limited to the Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5 series. If you own one of these phones, you can enable the feature from the ‘Voice typing’ section. from the Gboard settings. Google will also ask you to test the feature through a new banner.
Thanks to the Google Assistant, you can use voice commands to control the entire voice typing experience. For example, you can simply say “Clear” to remove the content and start over. Similarly, you can speak “Send” to send the message.
Once enabled, you will see a “Speak now to dictate” message in the word prediction space on the keyboard. As detailed in August, the Google Assistant light bar will appear to provide visual feedback. You can also choose to enable the automatic punctuation button to allow the keyboard to add punctuation automatically as you dictate.

When Google made its Google Meet video conferencing service available to everyone with a Google account for free, the company had mentioned its plans to limit the length of each session to 60 minutes before September 30. Considering that the pandemic still shows no signs of reducing down, the software giant has now extended Unlimited Meet calls until March 31, 2021.
“As we look forward to a holiday season with fewer trips and greater events like family get-togethers, PTA meetings, and video weddings, we want to continue helping those who trust Meet stay in touch for months to come. As a sign of our commitment, today we will continue unlimited Meet calling (up to 24 hours) in the free version until March 31, 2021, for Gmail accounts, ”the company wrote in a blog post.
In case you were wondering, the actual limit for each Google Meet session is 24 hours. However, it may not reach that limit under normal circumstances. On the other hand, popular Google Meet competitor Zoom limits each free meeting involving more than 3 participants to 40 minutes.
Google’s decision to extend the limit will come in handy for those who now rely on Google Meet for online classes, virtual meetings, catching up with friends, and more. With this extension, Google can also attract users of competing video conferencing services such as Zoom, which in turn will help Google Meet evolve as the standard for video calling for the foreseeable future.

Google Pay is currently one of the most popular UPI-based payment services in India. The application allows you to send money to friends, pay bills, recharge mobile numbers, and more. It also allows you to pay at companies that use the Spot platform. Google Pay was also slated to get a tokenized card feature, according to an announcement a year ago, but it is nowhere to be seen to date. However, the payment service has started testing NFC-based card payments in India.
First reported by Android Police, Google Pay has added support for debit and credit cards as a supported payment choice in the app. The service only supports Axis Bank credit/debit cards and SBI cards at the moment.
To set up your credit/debit card, open the Google Pay app and tap on your profile photo in the upper right. Then, you must go to the section “Accounts and bank cards” to find the new option “Add card“. It will tell you that you can add cards from only two major banks in India. However, we can expect more banks to join in the coming months. You will need to verify the same through an OTP message received from the bank.
If you have a hard time figuring it out, Google Pay already has a couple of live support pages to help you through the setup process. It mentions that adding your credit/debit card to the app will “register your card for Tokenized card payments” and enable a large number of features in India.
Most important of all are NFC-based card payments, which allow you to simply touch your phone at NFC terminals to complete payments. It also allows you to scan Bharat QR payment codes and make payments on online websites where Google Pay is supported.
For those unfamiliar with token cards, it means that Google Pay will assign a virtual account number to protect your real credit/debit card number. All of this data is stored on your Android phone, so you have to set up your cards every time you decide to switch to a new device.
The latest Google Trends report provides comprehensive information on what India has been searching online during the pandemic. During July, some of the most popular searches were for COVID-19-related problems, including treatments, vaccines, insurance, and more.
Overall, the coronavirus was the 15th most searched topic in India during July. With Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek, and daughter-in-law Aishwarya contracting the disease last month, the most common search term related to coronavirus over the past month was “Amitabh Bachchan corona positive.”
In addition to inquiries about the Bachchan family, another hot search topic was COVID insurance. As it turned out, inquiries on “Corona Rakshak Policy” and “Corona Kavach Policy“ experienced a massive jump over the month. While Corona Rakshak (crown protector) is a benefit-based plan, Corona Kavach (crown protector) is an indemnity plan. All health insurance providers offer these policies according to IRDAI guidelines.
The most searched coronavirus-related topic in the last month was “vaccine.” With around a dozen candidate vaccines from companies like AstraZeneca (in partnership with the University of Oxford), Moderna, and Pfizer already in phase 3 trials, experts believe we can get not one, but multiple COVID-19 vaccines safe and efficient. for this time of next year…
Meanwhile, search interest for COVID symptoms grew 10% over the past month. July posted the second-highest monthly peak for people searching online for COVID-19 symptoms. Most of the searches related to symptoms came from Sikkim, followed by Daman & Diu and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
In general, the searches followed the expected lines for the times we live in, but hopefully, we can put this deadly disease behind us and return to something akin to normalcy in our lives sooner rather than later.
According to reports, Google’s $ 2.1 billion offer to acquire Fitbit faces serious antitrust scrutiny in Europe. According to anonymous sources quoted by Reuters, the deal is triggering a “large-scale antitrust investigation in the EU.” The EU will reportedly start its investigation on August 4 after the end of its preliminary review. The news comes amid the historic United States Congress antitrust hearing involving Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Apple.
The EU Commission declined to comment on the matter, but Google issued a statement denying that the acquisition will harm competition. According to a company spokesperson, “The space for portable devices is crowded, and we believe that the combination of Google and Fitbit’s hardware efforts will increase competition in the sector, benefiting consumers and making the next generation of devices be better and more affordable. ” The EU is also leading an antitrust inquiry into Facebook’s business practices.
Google last November confirmed strategies to obtain Fitbit following media reports suggested that such a deal was in the offing. Subsequent reports suggested Facebook was also interested in the deal before pulling out due to price concerns. While the social media giant was only willing to pay around $ 1 billion, Google allegedly offered $ 2.1 billion.
The deal has attracted the attention of antitrust regulators, as well as privacy advocates worldwide. Many have expressed concern that Google may use private health data to power its search algorithm or for targeted advertising. Google, however, has agreed not to use any of the data for targeted ads.
The acquisition is considered to be a try by the US search giant to recover the WearOS platform. Originally called Android Wear, the platform remains a laggard in the wearable space, even as Apple and Samsung continue to dominate the industry with WatchOS and Tizen, respectively.
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak accused YouTube and its parent company Google, accusing them of not doing enough to remove content related to bitcoin scams that use their image. Wozniak is one of 18 plaintiffs seeking punitive damages and removal of all scam videos using his name and likeness.
The suit, filed with the San Mateo Superior Court in the US state of California, accuses YouTube and Google of violating Wozniak’s promotion right and misappropriating his name and likeness. It also accuses the search giant of helping and encouraging fraud, and negligence for failing to warn users. Google has yet to publish an official response to the lawsuit.
“YouTube has featured a steady stream of fraudulent videos and promotions that falsely use images and videos of plaintiff Steve Wozniak and other famous tech entrepreneurs, and who have defrauded YouTube of millions of dollars,” the lawsuit says. At the same time, it also praises Twitter for “acting fast” after the massive bitcoin scam earlier this week. “That same day, Twitter acted quickly and decisively to close these accounts and protect its users from the scam,” the lawsuit states.
The lawsuit further alleged that Google and YouTube did not remove these videos even when they were informed of the scam. With full knowledge of this scam, YouTube resisted removing the scam videos, allowing them to multiply. YouTube and Google went a step further to promote and benefit from these scams by providing targeted advertising to users who were more likely to suffer harm, “he says.
