Reliance Jio will launch 100 million android phones by the end of December or early January 2021 this year. The Jio platform received an investment of Rs 33,737 crore from Google in July and Google and Jio will work together on a budget android phone that will work on Android and target 350 million 2G subscribers.
According to a Business Standard report, Reliance Jio is working on a smartphone that will make 100 million affordable android phones in India by late December or January 2021.
The report suggests that Jio has held talks with Lava, global smartphone makers Foxconn and Wistron. Data packs can also be found with this phone prepared by Jio and Google.
Jio has already confirmed that the company is preparing affordable phones for existing 2G subscribers and bringing them new options to upgrade to 4G networks.
The number of 2G users in India is still 350 million, but the price of 4G smartphones is still above Rs 4,000, so Jio is going to make affordable phones that will be a good choice for 4G phone users for the first time.
Reliance ensures that if existing 2G subscribers want to upgrade over a smartphone or 4G network, they will get many options. Reliance Jio has launched two phones JioPhone and JioPhone 2 in 2017 and 2018.
Jio has attracted 100 million users from its two feature phones, however, now feature phone users want to upgrade to smartphones.
Reliance has received an investment of Rs 152,000 crore from companies like Facebook, Google, Silver Lake, and Qualcomm on the Digital Arm Jio platform.
